Our brief was to create a family kitchen for our clients and their large family in a cloistered room of this former boys school, to include dining and sitting space. We introduced panelling, a split level island and our eclectic mix of cupboards and colour, to make best use of the high ceilinged room and give it a human scale.

These clients live in an Arts & Crafts house designed for the Great Exhibition. They wanted to include dining, and a seating area but with an appropriate period feel. We designed a chimney with classic Arts & Crafts detailing, included a walk in larder, curved window seat for relaxing with a coffee, dining space delineated by the substantial island and dresser.

The challenge here was to work with clients renovating a 16th century cottage in partnership with English Heritage. The larger of the two downstairs rooms had to house the kitchen, dining space, a cloakroom and utility area! We managed to successfully fulfil the brief, although the broom cupboard had to be accommodated in the kitchen – as a matching cupboard to the integrated fridge!
